Why can’t we feed the donkeys snacks?

Donkeys have impressive digestive systems adapted to living in the desert where food is scarce. Their stomachs break down food very efficiently so their bodies can absorb the most amount of nutrition from it. Because of this snacks like carrots or apples will make the donkeys sick.
