Barron Park Donkeys

About Us

Barron Park Donkey Project

The Barron Park Donkeys live in a private pasture along the bike path near Bol Park (type in address 3590 Laguna Ave, Palo Alto, CA 94306 if you are using a mapping app). You can visit them there at the gate at any time! The Barron Park Donkey Project is a fully volunteer-run and donation-supported organization. We rely on our volunteers to feed, walk and care for our donkeys and their pasture. We are heavily reliant on donations–please consider donating!

The Barron Park Donkeys date back to the 1950s when Josina and Cornelis Bol cared for a small herd on their property, land that would later become Bol Park. Since then, the community has enjoyed the presence of the donkeys, leading the neighbors to continue the tradition to this day. Community efforts make it possible for families to enjoy the pasture, offering a glimpse into rural life in the heart of Silicon Valley.

We bring them for a walk to Bol Park on Sundays between 10:00 and 11:00 and you can meet and pet them. They are also fed at the gate on Sundays at 5:00pm (4pm in the winter months) which is another good time to see them.

Very important: Never bring food for the donkeys; we feed them a special diet! Foods high in sugar like carrots, apples and even fresh grass are not healthy for donkeys as they are prone to diabetes.
